Holy Name Cathedral, Colaba

This opulent cathedral is also known as Wodehouse Church. The church decorated with an array of artwork was built to replace an ancient church that was located in nearby Bhuleshwar. This new church was opened for the public to worship in 1905. The midnight mass held at this church is very big, and it’s broadcasted live all over the state. The melodious Christmas carol starts around 9:30 p.m., by the Cathedral Choir and continues until 11:30 p.m. The church is located on the Wodehouse Road opposite to the YMCA, Colaba.

Mount Mary Church, Bandra

The church situated at the hill-top overlooking the ocean is one of the oldest and most-revered churches of Mumbai. The church building is said to be more than 100years old while the statue of the reverent mother Mary is believed to be dating back to the 16th century. It is said that the statue was brought all the way from Portugal to the city by Jesuits priests. The midnight mass of the church is the most famous midnight mass of Bandra. The mass is held indoors, and the carols start around 11:30 p.m. Not only for the midnight mass but the church is also known for its architecture and natural beauty around it.  

Saint Thomas’s Cathedral Fort

The Saint Thomas’s Cathedral Fort was the first Anglican Church in Mumbai. This church was opened for worship in 1718 on the eve of Christmas. This towering white church is renowned for its architecture that comprises of stained glass work. It was awarded the UNESCO Asia-pacific heritage conservation award in 2004. It is best known for its memorials and architecture, but it is also one of the most favorite spots for worshiping especially on the Christmas. The carol on the Christmas Eve begins at 9:30 p.m., which is then followed by the mass at 10:30 p.m. 

Our Lady of Gloria, Byculla

The Gloria Church of Byculla is one of the most prominent buildings in the area that is built in Gothic style. This church designed the Canterbury Cathedral of England dates back to 1572. However, at that time, it was only a chapel which was rebuilt and developed many times. It was shifted to its present location in 1910. The four beautiful glass-stained towers of the church are among the tallest church towers of the city. The midnight mass gathers here at midnight with the carol beginning around 11:30 p.m.

St. Michael’s Church, Mahim

One of the oldest churches in India, St. Michael’s Church, is hugely famous for the midnight mass and Novena. This church which is believed to be established in the 16th century still attracts masses for Christmas celebration. The church is attractively decorated for the special occasion and fills the visitors with festive spirits. People start gathering in, even before the carol starts at 11 p.m. The Novena of the church is as famous as its Christmas’s Carol and midnight mass.
